Immersed Tunnel Masterclass 2026

Immersed Tunnel Masterclass 2026

Last week, the Immersed Tunnel Masterclass 2026 took place, organised by TU Delft, KIVI Tunnel Engineering and Underground Works, and the Centre for Underground Construction (COB). During this international event, students, young professionals and experienced specialists from various countries came together to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of immersed tunnelling.

Over the course of four intensive days, participants explored a wide range of topics, including tunnel design, construction methods, immersion operations, safety, and risk management. The programme provided valuable insights into both the technical and organisational challenges involved in immersed tunnel projects.

On behalf of Immontec, Peter van Westendorp delivered several sessions in which he shared lessons learned and practical experiences from international tunnel and caisson projects. Using real-life examples, he highlighted key challenges, project experiences and insights gained during complex construction and immersion operations.

The masterclass concluded with a visit to the Scheldt Tunnel, part of the Oosterweel Link project in Antwerp. This was a particularly special project for Immontec to showcase, as our team played a key role in the immersion operations of the tunnel elements, which were successfully completed last year.

We look back on an inspiring week focused on knowledge sharing, international collaboration, and inspiring the next generation of tunnel professionals. We would like to thank the organisers and all participants for their valuable contributions to another successful edition of the masterclass.
