Last week, Immontec attended the ITA World Tunnel Congress 2026 (WTC2026) in Montréal, Canada. Together with our partners Ramboll, Ballast Nedam, MH Poly Consultants and Engineers, and TEC Tunnel Engineering Consultants, we presented the latest developments in immersed tunnelling.
Representing Immontec at the congress and exhibition were Peter van Westendorp, Maurice Reijm, Arne de Jong and Tom Langerak. From booth C0707, they engaged with professionals from the international tunnelling industry about immersed tunnelling as a sustainable and efficient alternative to bored tunnels.
In addition, Immontec was represented within Working Group 11 (Immersed and Floating Tunnels) of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA). During several technical sessions, the latest developments and innovations within the field were shared and discussed
During the congress, Arne de Jong presented the paper on behalf of Immontec:
“An innovative modular realignment and locking system for immersed tunnels”
The presentation focused on experiences gained during the Scheldt Tunnel project (Oosterweel connection) in Antwerp. For this project, Immontec developed a modular system enabling tunnel elements to be accurately aligned and stabilised under challenging tidal conditions.
The system combines hydraulic alignment with an intelligent mechanical locking solution, allowing tunnel elements to be positioned with millimetre accuracy while remaining stable despite continuous water level variations and deformation of the GINA gasket.
The presentation resulted in valuable discussions and knowledge exchange with tunnelling professionals from around the world.
We look back on a successful edition of WTC2026 and would like to thank everyone who visited our booth or attended one of the sessions.
