Project Update – Sixth Tunnel Element Installed, Countdown to the Final Two

Successful Placement of TE6

We are proud to announce that the sixth tunnel element (TE6) for the Scheldt Tunnel has been successfully immersed. Thanks to the excellent collaboration and commitment of our main contractor TM COTU, the subcontractors, all involved companies, and our IMMONTEC colleagues, the operation was completed safely and efficiently.

Impressive Progress

A total of 360,000 tonnes of tunnel elements are now in their final positions on the Scheldt riverbed, representing approximately 960 metres of tunnel. Starting from the Left Bank, work is steadily progressing towards the Right Bank, with the connection point coming ever closer.

Sequence of the Final Elements

Following the immersion of TE6, the survey unit will be moved to the Right Bank to prepare for the placement of the final two elements, which will be immersed in the following order:

  • Element 8 will be installed first, directly connecting to the fixed tunnel section on the Right Bank.
  • Element 7 will follow, allowing the final connection to be made within the extremely tight tolerance of 35 mm.
  • The formwork for the closure joint between elements 7 and 8 is scheduled for January.
